About Me

Wild Life-   Fish-   Birds-   About Me-   family & friends   My Homepage-

I was born in West Chester, PA. I was always I guess what you would call a "creative kid" , enjoyed drawing and anything artistic.

Attended West Chester University (for business mgmt). Owned sporting goods stores in Carlisle and Lebanon PA.   Needing a change I moved to Key West in 1981, worked for major Hotels. I renewed my artistic interests - taking drawing, ceramic, and sculpture classes at Florida Keys Community College. Building Fantasy Fest Floats and costumes.

Searching for a 3 dimensional medium without the limitations of clay, My partner Greg Gaulke and I started experimenting with Papier Mache`, and over the years came up with this variation, for its strength and durability.  We started selling our whimisical sculptures in 1992, eventually both of us created our sculptures full-time, until Gregs' death in 2006.  So now I go it alone, I'm exclusively at 7 Artists, and its all I can do to keep up with demand there and through the web.

Where did "Egg" come from ?

It's just a stupid nickname, which I had for about a year (in 5th grade) - I had a very creative and artsy teacher - Sheila Dougherty - We were drawing self portraits, and I was having difficulty - and she said  "start with your head - you're head is an egg" and of course my classmates picked up on that, and I was called "Egg" or "Eggy" for about a year.

Once I became Egg the artist, I refused to tell anyone my true name, to establish my Artist Identity, but now that I've been doing it so long, and been successful, my name is Jim Kukoda (now isn't "Egg" easier to remember?)
